Help Name the New Sam Houston(s):
If Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott approves the plan, the campus formerly known as Sam Houston High School will split into two new schools this fall—a ninth-grade academy with a longer, more rigorous school day, and a high-tech center for students in grades 10, 11, and 12. HISD is accepting suggestions for new names for both new campuses. To contribute an idea, please post a comment.

School Calendar
(Victor)
Subject: School Calendar
Hello,
With regard to the interruptions I mentioned in yesterday's meetings, one thing that may help alleviate the problem is a school calendar, which may be put on to the school website. A recurring problem we've experienced, for example, is that in the past 2 years the senior panoramic picture was scheduled the same day an AP exam was scheduled to be given. This year it was AP Lit and I believe it was AP Language last year. As you can imagine, it was quite stressful for the kids. Both times we had to rush to make sure we were in the testing room and ready to go before 9:00am. The AP exams are scheduled by the CollegeBoard and they are dates we can not negotiate. But, if we had a real school calendar that had more than just TAKS testing dates on it, one that would include field trips, fundraising activities, auditorium events, UIL atheltic and academic events, professional development, etc. This would help eliminate the chaos we often experience, expecially with really important events. Perhaps this is an item for the next agenda.
